Reference Management Recommendation

To promote consistency, accuracy, and efficiency in the preparation of manuscripts, authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software when compiling citations and bibliographies. The use of such tools can significantly reduce formatting errors, facilitate revisions, and support compliance with the journal’s citation requirements.

Recommended reference management applications include:

  • Zotero
  • Mendeley
  • EndNote
  • Citavi

Recommended Tool: Zotero

IJPSC particularly recommends Zotero, a free and open-source reference management system widely used by researchers, students, and academic institutions worldwide. Zotero assists authors in collecting, organizing, managing, and citing scholarly sources throughout the research and writing process.

Key features include:

  • One-click import of references from academic databases, library catalogues, and websites
  • Automatic generation of in-text citations and bibliographies
  • Support for more than 9,000 citation styles, including APA 6th Edition
  • Integration with Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, and Google Docs
  • Flexible organization through collections, tags, and saved searches
  • Cloud synchronization across multiple devices
  • Shared group libraries for collaborative research projects
  • Strong data privacy and user control

Zotero is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and iOS.

ZoteroBib

Authors requiring only occasional citation support may also use ZoteroBib, a free web-based bibliography generator developed by the Zotero project. ZoteroBib enables users to create properly formatted citations and reference lists directly in their browser without installing additional software.

Benefits for Authors

The use of reference management software offers several advantages throughout the publication process:

  • Improved consistency and accuracy of citations and references
  • Reduced risk of formatting errors
  • Easier adaptation to journal-specific citation styles
  • Efficient management of large numbers of sources
  • Simplified collaboration among co-authors
  • Faster manuscript revision and resubmission

Authors remain responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all references included in their manuscripts. Nevertheless, the use of a citation management system can substantially improve the quality and efficiency of manuscript preparation while supporting compliance with the editorial standards of the International Journal of Psychology and Strategic Communication.
